Egypt and U.S. Partner to Boost Trade

Cairo (September 22, 2011) – Building on the success of its Egypt: Forward Forum and Site Visits in June, 2011, in the United States, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) conducted consultations this week with Egyptian government and private sector partners about how Egypt and the U.S. can work together to boost trade.  USTDA Regional Director for North Africa Mr. Carl B. Kress briefed USTDA partners in Egypt on the outcomes stemming from the Egypt: Forward Forum and Site Visits.  Business agreements worth more than $3 billion were signed at the Egypt: Forward Forum, and more than $100 million in additional deals are anticipated as a result of meetings during the Forum and Site Visits.

“U.S.-Egyptian business cooperation represents important opportunities for both countries, in Egypt and throughout the Middle East and Africa.” said Mr. Kress.  “In this critical time, we are focusing USTDA’s program on supporting increased trade and business partnerships that will create jobs and increase economic activity in both countries.” 

Mr. Kress also met with senior officials at GAFI, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as ICT sector public and private sector delegates who participated in the Egypt: Forward Forum and Site Visits and ICT sector representatives from the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt.  The discussions focused on developing an ICT sector technical workshop, one of four sector-specific technical workshops planned for the coming year.

In the interest of facilitating communication between the many American and Egyptian companies that seek to work together, USTDA recently launched a dedicated website focusing on resources and activities that can facilitate such cooperation.  The website can be found at http://EgyptForward.ustda.gov.  USTDA looks forward to several future visits to Egypt in the coming months, both to advance the Egypt: Forward Initiative and to seek out new project opportunities in need of project planning assistance. 

 

القاهرة – بناءً على النجاح الذى حققة مؤتمر دعم مصر والزيارات الميدانية التى تمت فى بداية فصل الصيف, فقد قامت المنظمة الامريكية للتجارة والتنمية بالتشاور مع عدة جهات حكومية مصرية وكذالك شركاء فى القطاع الخاص من اجل تنشيط  العلاقات التجارية الامريكية المصرية .

هذا وقد تفضل السيد كارل كريس المدير الاقليمى لمنطقة شمال افريقيا بالمنظمة الامريكية للتجارة والتنمية بشرح محصلة النتائج التى تم التوصل اليها فى مؤتمر دعم مصر (والذى عقد بالولايات المتحدة الامريكية فى شهر يونيو 2011 )  لشركاء المنظمة فى مصر. وجديراً بالذكر انة قد تم عقد عدد من الصفقات التجارية على هامش المؤتمر بلغت 3 مليارات دولار ومن المتوقع ان تتم عدة صفقات اخرى تصل فى مجملها الى نحو 100 مليون دولار وذالك نظراً للمجهودات العظيمة التى بذلت فى المؤتمر والزيارات الميدانية.

وقد قام مؤخراً السيد كريس بمقابلة عدد من المسئولين فى الهيئة العامة للاستثمار ووزارة الاتصالات وتكنولوجيا المعلومات ووزارة الخارجية وممثلى قطاع تكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات بالغرفة التجارية الامريكية فى مصر وكذالك الوفود التى شاركت فى مؤتمر دعم مصر والزيارات الميدانية من القطاع العام والخاص.
